SST89E54RED2A/RDA and SST89E58RD2A/RDA are members of the FlashFlex series of 8-bit microcontroller products, designed and manufactured using SST patents and proprietary SuperFlash CMOS semiconductor process technology. The split gate cell design and thick oxide tunnel injector provide significant cost and reliability advantages for SST customers. These devices use the 8051 instruction set and are pin compatible with standard 8051 microcontroller devices.
These devices are equipped with 24/40KB on-chip flash EEPROM program memory, which is divided into 2 independent program storage blocks. Main block 0 occupies 16/32KB of internal program storage space, while secondary block 1 occupies 8KB of internal program memory space.
An 8-KB auxiliary block can be mapped to the lowest position of the 16/32KB address space; It can also hide program counters and be used as an independent EEPROM type data storage.
In addition to on-chip 24/40KB EEPROM program memory and 1024x8-bit on-chip RAM, these devices can also address up to 64KB of external program memory and up to 64KByte of external RAM.
Flash memory blocks can be programmed using a standard 87C5x OTP EPROM programmer equipped with special adapters and SST device firmware. During power on reset, these devices can be configured as slave devices of external hosts to store source code, or as master devices for in app programming (IAP) operations. These devices are designed to be programmable within the system and can be applied on printed circuit boards for maximum flexibility. These devices have pre programmed an example of a boot loader in memory, demonstrating the initial loading of user program code or subsequent user code updates through lAP operations. The example bootloader is for user reference and convenience only; SST does not guarantee its functionality or practicality. Chip erase or block erase operations will erase pre programmed sample code.
