Description of DRV8880
DRV8880 is a bipolar stepper motor driver suitable for industrial applications. This device features two N-channel power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET) H-bridge drivers and a microstepping indexer. The DRV8880 is capable of driving a full-scale current of up to 2.0A or a root mean square (rms) current of 1.4A (with proper printed circuit board (PCB) grounding for heat dissipation, at 24V, TA=25°C).
AutoTune can automatically adjust the stepper motor to achieve optimal current regulation performance, and can compensate for motor variations and aging issues. Additionally, this device offers three decay modes: slow, fast, and mixed.
The STEP/DIR pin provides a simple control interface. The device can be configured in multiple step modes, ranging from full step mode to 1/16 step mode. With a dedicated nSLEEP pin, the device offers a low-power sleep mode, enabling ultra-low quiescent current standby.
The device incorporates the following protection functions: undervoltage, charge pump failure, overcurrent, short circuit, and overheat protection. Fault conditions are indicated through the nFAULT pin.
